Where does the user interface start?

A conversation about the potential regulation of the TV remote control

Nowhere is the change in front of the big screen more evident than on the latest remote controls. More and more device manufacturers are equipping the power in the hands of the public with buttons for streaming apps. The number buttons are dying out in favour of Netflix and the like - and with them the dominance of traditional TV programmes. "ProSieben on 7" is a thing of the past, and the balanced findability of public value content seems to be in danger on the device side. How can a fair co-existence of moving image sources be ensured? Does media policy need to intervene to regulate even before the big screen? A discussion about gatekeeping with remote control in hand.
