The value of (good) entertainment
The media landscape is fundamentally changing. International streaming providers and third-party platforms are redefining the entertainment market. They challenge both private and public broadcasters in terms of relevance, findability and financeability of fictional productions, in some cases even existentially, as Sky's withdrawal from in-house production shows, among other things. And so the two pillars of the dual media system in Germany currently possibly share as many topics as there are critically discussed between them.
Against this background, we will discuss in this panel, among other things, the economic value of entertainment production for the creative landscape/economy, the importance of the genre for reaching target groups or for securing one's own relevance/reach.
