Dr. Susanne Pfab
Secretary General, ARD
Dr. Susanne Pfab has been Secretary General of ARD since 2015. She is the central point of contact in Berlin for politicians, associations and social institutions on broadcasting and media policy issues. She represents ARD's interests in media regulatory processes and media policy committees, at national and international specialist conferences and through strategic public relations work. She also supports the respective ARD chair in the management of the organization and heads the ARD General Secretariat as a permanent chair staff unit. Susanne Pfab also coordinates cross-cutting issues for the federally organized broadcaster community, including in the areas of public value and sustainability.
Prior to her position as Secretary General, Pfab, who holds a doctorate in law, worked as a managing director for the supervisory bodies of ARD and as a lecturer at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. She is an honorary member of the board of trustees of the Bristol-Meyers-Squibb Foundation for Immuno-Oncology, the advisory board of the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and the advisory board of the German Adult Education Association, a deputy board member of the German Television Lottery Foundation and a supporting member of the International Press Institute.
Susanne Pfab's work is primarily aimed at sustainably strengthening and communicating the social value of public broadcasting. Particularly in view of dynamic developments in media use, profound upheavals in social communication and the visible influence of disinformation on the opinion-forming process, she is convinced that the functioning of a modern democracy requires an independent institution such as public broadcasting that is oriented towards the common good and values and has the power to integrate.
