Film and TV Location Bavaria & Germany: Setting Incentives, Securing the Future

What new political framework conditions and changes in state film funding are needed for a sustainable film and TV location in Germany - also in view of the current economic challenges facing media companies? Germany as a media and film location is one of the most important in Europe; with Bavaria as one of the country's most important film and TV regions. At the beginning of the year, the Federal Minister for Culture and the Media, Claudia Roth, presented key points for a reform of state film funding in Germany. The stated goal: to make film funding "more efficient, faster and more holistic." The coalition agreement states that the introduction of a tax incentive model and a statutory investment obligation should be examined. The awarding of public funds is also to be linked in the future to further criteria such as diversity, sustainability and gender equality. A draft bill for the Film Subsidies Act (FFG) is expected to be available by the end of the fall.
