How to make media accessible

Nothing shapes society as much as the media. But only those who can use media have the opportunity to participate in social life. The fact that (also) private media are committed to accessibility has a long tradition in the German market. It is now also a legal requirement to report on this regularly. Cornelia Holsten, Director of the Bremische Landesmedienanstalt (Bremen State Media Authority) and the media authorities' thematic officer for accessibility and diversity, will give an overview of the media authorities' current monitoring of accessibility in the private media and present the online survey tool that is currently being planned. The event will also focus on two questions: How does accessibility work in the media and how can it be achieved even more easily? Two media companies and two start-ups will talk about this: Frederike Wissel and Steffen Hubert from ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE will report on barrier-free advertising. Mirijam Trunk from RTL Germany will present the project "Zum Schwarzwälder Hirsch," which involved people with cognitive impairments for the first time: The show is about 13 people with Down syndrome working as independently as possible in a restaurant for a month, unleashing their potential. As start-ups, SUMM AI and paged will present their projects. SUMM AI is an AI-based tool that translates any text into plain language. With paged, websites can be visually optimized to make them more accessible. The event will be moderated by Damian Breu. The event will be barrier-free and offers space to get into conversation with each other and to network.
