Journalism Summit
Reality Under Construction – Quality journalism between claim and reality
Democracy is under pressure, populism and nationalist tendencies are gaining ground in uncertain times. This mood will be particularly noticeable in the 2024 super election year. Social media is a central place for polarisation and radicalisation. The distinction between truth and fake news is once again being made more difficult by the increasing use of artificial intelligence. Many people feel unrepresented in the traditional media landscape and distrust it.
How can journalism rebuild and maintain trust, especially in the face of increasing hostility towards and rejection of the media?
Is the media still able to build bridges in polarised sections of society and promote constructive dialogue?
How can journalism help to strengthen social cohesion at a time when disinformation is rampant and truth and democracy are under threat?
A debate that is not new - but solutions are needed more urgently than ever before.
