Masterclass: DVB-I

A standardised TV and streaming experience for all screens

DVB-I continues to offer the familiar and simple use of the linear TV programme even if the programme is no longer distributed exclusively via the established broadcast channels of satellite, cable and antenna, but increasingly also via IP streaming. A hybrid programme list combines different forms of distribution for the audience in a common user experience with many options for additional services. These can include HbbTV, extended programme guides, accessible services, genre-based and temporary pop-up channels, e.g. for major events and higher picture resolutions (UHD). Regionalised channel lists improve the findability of local and regional TV content. The aim of the DVB-I Pilot Germany is to prepare for a possible market launch. Twenty-one broadcasters, companies and organisations took part in the pilot, including ARD and ZDF, ProSiebenSat.1 Media, RTL Deutschland and Bayerische Medien Technik. Last year, the DVB-I Pilot Germany was honoured with the IBC Special Award for Innovation and an HbbTV Award. In the MasterClass, the potential of DVB-I and the current status of the DVB-I Pilot Germany will be presented.
