Dr. Jan Busse

Dr Jan Busse works as a political scientist with a focus on international politics and conflict research at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. Previously, he worked in the Middle East and Africa Research Group of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) and in the Cabinet of the President of the European Commission in Brussels. He holds a Master's degree in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Bielefeld University. He was also co-director of the Israeli-European Policy Network from 2014-2020 and a member of the Arab German Young Academiy of Sciences and Humanities from 2017 to 2022. The regional focus of his research is on political and social dynamics of the Middle East and North Africa, especially Israel and Palestine. Together with Muriel Asseburg, he has written the book "Der Nahostkonflikt: Gesichte, Positionen, Perspektiven" (5th edition 2023, C.H. Beck). In 2022, he co-edited the book "The Rebellious Game: The Power of Football in the Middle East and the Qatar World Cup" (with René Wildangel).
