Adam Rose

COO, Starling Lab for Data Integrity

Adam Rose is COO at the Starling Lab for Data Integrity, which was co-founded by Stanford University and USC Shoah Foundation to explore the future of trust in digital records. Starling often uses web3 approaches including applied cryptography and decentralized systems, which can reveal tampering and protect content from destruction. The lab implements these technologies across three practice areas: journalism, law and history. In 2023, Starling’s projects have won or been a finalist for awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (News Emmys), National Press Club, National Press Photographers Association, American Society of Magazine Editors, Overseas Press Club of America, Scripps Howard Awards, and others. Adam previously worked in journalism for two decades with a focus on digital media and video production. He was managing editor for news/sports/movies at Paramount+, served in senior newsroom leadership roles for the Huffington Post, worked for the Los Angeles Times, and was an editor and contributor for LAist. He volunteers on the Los Angeles Press Club board of directors and serves as its press rights chair. In that role, he researches police-press interactions and successfully lobbied for a California law to protect journalists from arrest while covering protests.
