Rainer Robra

Head of the State Chancellery & Minister of State, Staatskanzlei und Ministerium für Kultur des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt

Rainer Robra was born in Nienhof/Celle in October 1951. After studying law in Göttingen and Hamburg and passing the Second State Examination in 1979, he first worked as a judge in Hanover, then as a public prosecutor in Celle. In 1986, he moved to the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice. There he was most recently head of the criminal law department as Ministerialdirigent. From 1990 to 1994, he was State Secretary of Justice in Saxony-Anhalt and, in this capacity, played a key role in building up the judicial system. In 1994, he founded a law firm in Magdburg, where he worked as a lawyer until April 2002. Since May 2002, Rainer Robra has been head of the State Chancellery and Minister for Europe in Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, he is a member of the Bundesrat. He has also been Minister of Culture since May 2016. Rainer Robra holds various honorary offices, including managing director of the association "Stiftung Rechtsstaat Sachsen-Anhalt e. V." As head of the state chancellery, Rainer Robra is also responsible for media policy. Rainer Robra is married and has three children and three grandchildren.
