Tom Buhrow
Intendant, WDR
Tom Buhrow has been Director-General of Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) since 2013; he also served as ARD Chairman from 2020 to 2021 and from August to December 2022. A history and political science graduate and trained journalist, Buhrow has worked as a reporter, editor and correspondent in Washington and Paris, and as a presenter of ARD's Tagesthemen. Since taking up his post at WDR, he has driven forward the station's digital and cross-media transformation in particular. Television, radio and the Internet have been more closely networked, content has been targeted for non-linear use and innovations have been launched, for example in the field of AI. For the strategic further development of WDR, the so-called Innovation Hub was created in 2019, whose focus is on trend research.
