Dr. Norbert Himmler

Dr. Norbert Himmler, born in Mainz in 1971, has been Director-General of ZDF since March 2022. He studied German and political science in Mainz and earned his doctorate in Munich. In 1997, he began working for ZDF, initially for current affairs, and then as a trainee from 1998 to 1999 before moving to program management in 2002. There he headed, among other things, the planning editorial department and the main editorial department for feature films/ZDFneo. Himmler was program director from 2012 to 2022. In July 2021, he was elected by the ZDF Television Council as Director General for a five-year term.
