Christine Strobl

Programme Director, ARD

Christine Strobl was born in Freiburg in 1971. After studying law, the fully qualified lawyer Christine Strobl joined Südwestrundfunk (SWR) as a trainee in November 1999. After working at SWR4 Baden-Württemberg and in the directorate in Stuttgart, she took over as head of the children's and family programme department in October 2007. From 1 February 2011, Christine Strobl was Head of the Film and Family Programming Department at SWR in Baden-Baden. She was responsible for all fictional series, television and cinema films, ‘Tatort’ and the entire SWR children's and family programme for SWR television, KIKA and ARD. On 1 July 2012, Christine Strobl moved to ARD subsidiary Degeto Film GmbH as Managing Director and Spokesperson of the Executive Board. On 1 May 2021, Christine Strobl succeeded Volker Herres as ARD Programme Director. In this role, she is responsible for the ARD joint programme Das Erste and the ARD Mediathek. The ARD Programme Director is also Chairwoman of the permanent Video Programme Conference (VPK). Under her chairmanship, the directors-general and programme directors of the state broadcasters coordinate Das Erste and the ARD Mediathek. Christine Strobl is a member of the Supervisory Board of ARD Degeto and SportA, the joint sports rights agency of ARD and ZDF. She has also been a member of the University Council of the University of Freiburg since October 2024.
