Dr. Tobias Schmid

Dr. Tobias Schmid is Director of the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LFM NRW) and European Commissioner of the Conference of Directors of the State Media Authorities (DLM). In this capacity, he has headed the Consistent implementation and enforcement of the European framework for audiovisual media services working group of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA) since January 2023. Since April 1, 2021, he has also been a member of the Expert Committee for Communication and Information of the German UNESCO Commission, and since September 2022, he has been Chairman of the Federal Expert Committee for Media in the German Music Council. In 2020 and 2021, Tobias Schmid was chairman of ERGA. He was divisional director of media policy at Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland from 2005 to 2016 and executive vice president of governmental affairs at RTL Group from September 2010 to December 2016. In addition, Schmid, who holds a doctorate in law, was also involved in the Association of Private Broadcasting and Telemedia (today: VAUNET), serving as Chairman of the Board from November 2012 to September 2016.
