Prof. Dr. Thomas Hess

Prof. Dr. Thomas Hess is Head of the Institute for Digital Management and New Media at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. In addition, Prof. Hess is a member of the board of the Munich Center for Internet Research (MCIR), co-chairman of the Internet Business Cluster Munich (IBC) and a member of the board of the Munich Center for Internet Research (MCIR). From 2008 to 2011, Prof. Hess was Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at LMU Munich and from 2011 to 2013 he was Chairman of the Scientific Commission for Business Informatics. In 2017, Prof. Hess was elected a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Thomas Hess was born in Darmstadt in 1967. He studied business informatics at the Technical University of Darmstadt, earned his doctorate at the University of St. Gallen and habilitated at the University of Göttingen. He was also a visiting professor at Nanyang University in Singapore and at the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland. In addition, Prof. Hess has practical experience as a management consultant and supervisory board member as well as an executive assistant at Bertelsmann. In research, Prof. Hess focuses on the use of digital technologies by companies. His current work focuses on digital business models and digital control systems, digitisation processes and methods as well as the management of IT, internet and media companies. Thomas Hess is an editor of academic journals and in practice works as a supervisory board member and consultant with a focus on the media and IT industry as well as digital transformation.
