Dr. Thorsten Schmiege

President, Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (BLM)

Dr. Thorsten Schmiege has been President of the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for New Media (BLM) since October 1, 2021. He began working for the BLM in September 2019 as Managing Director. Within the framework of the nationwide working group of state media authorities, he is currently chairman of the Directors' Conference of State Media Authorities (DLM) and the Commission for Licensing and Supervision (ZAK). He is also a substitute member of the Commission for Investigating Concentration in the Media (KEK) and a deputy member of the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM). The doctor of law was head of the Media Policy/Broadcasting Law Division from March 2017 and, from 2018, also deputy head of the Europe and Media Department in the Bavarian State Chancellery. Other professional positions included division management in the former Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, as well as project management at Linde Engineering. He passed his state examinations in Regensburg and also obtained his doctorate there.
