Dr. Thorsten Schmiege

Dr. Thorsten Schmiege has been President of the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for Commercial Broadcasting (BLM) since October 1, 2021. He began his work for the BLM in September 2019 as Managing Director. Schmiege, who holds a doctorate in law, was head of the Media Policy/Broadcasting Law Department from March 2017 and also deputy head of the Europe and Media Department in the Bavarian State Chancellery from 2018. Further professional stations were department heads in the former Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology as well as project management at Linde Engineering. Within the framework of the nationwide Working Group of the State Media Authorities, he is currently Deputy Chairman of the Directors' Conference of the State Media Authorities (DLM) and of the Commission for Licensing and Supervision (ZAK). He also coordinates the Media Authorities' Technical Committee for Infrastructure and Innovation.
