Management and commercial processing – these are the core areas of Ippen Digital Managing Director Benjamin Marx. The strategic orientation of Ippen Digital, sales, administration and operational management – that’s what Managing Director Benjamin Marx takes care of. Together with Jan Ippen, who is mainly responsible for technological development, he manages Ippen Digital. “But clearly, we are not a giant company, so Jan Ippen and I usually represent each other.”
Marx knows a thing or two about digital publishing: before he took over the management of Ippen Digital, he was deputy editor-in-chief of the Lausitzer Rundschau for several years and later coordinator of the digital activities of the Saarbrücken publishing group. As such, he developed various digital strategies for the then three houses of the publishing house and for the additional digital business. From foreign correspondence to digital strategy: Before that, Marx had already worked as a web programmer and was a foreign correspondent in the Middle East for radio, television, but above all newspapers; obvious, after all, Marx studied Arabic and Persian.
In addition to Ippen Digital, Benjamin Marx also heads Munich Online GmbH (MOL) and thus the online business of the Ippen publishing house for Munich and Upper Bavaria. Today he hardly ever writes anymore, even though it is not always easy for him to take himself out of the editorial day-to-day business – “once you’ve done it yourself, you like to talk people into it. But I’ve learned to keep a low profile,” he says with a smile. There’s plenty to do when it comes to preparing key figures, business development and so on.
