Martin Fleischhacker

CEO, Mediengruppe Wiener Zeitung

As Managing Director of the Wiener Zeitung media group and publisher of the WZ (Wiener Zeitung), Martin Fleischhacker has successfully reorganised the world's oldest existing daily newspaper. Under his leadership, the Wiener Zeitung has developed from a traditional print medium into a multimedia platform that prepares its content for channels such as TikTok, Instagram and other digital formats. In doing so, WZ is increasingly targeting a younger readership and thus fulfilling its public service mandate to promote democratic education.

A key element of this reorientation is the addition of the innovative 360° traineeship programme, which promotes young journalists in a practice-oriented manner and trains them in all facets of modern journalism. Participants, who are paid according to the Journalist KV, gain insights into digital media production, social media, data journalism and traditional journalistic work, optimally preparing them for the challenges of the media industry.

With his extensive expertise in the media industry and the successful implementation of transformation processes, Martin Fleischhacker is actively shaping change in the Austrian media landscape. His vision is to establish WZ as a relevant source of information in the digital age and to place quality journalism exactly where young people consume media today.
