Rebecca Ciesielski

Rebecca Ciesielski is a reporter specializing in algorithmic accountability reporting at Bayerischer Rundfunk's AI + Automation Lab. Together with colleagues, she investigated how biometric data puts people in Afghanistan in mortal danger, how AI algorithms monitor the emotions of call center employees, and how intelligence agency employees are spied on using location data from apps. Her work has been recognized with the Grimme Online Award, the Journalism Prize for Computer Science, and the European Press Prize. Before joining BR, she studied computer science, communication science, and cultural anthropology, completed an internship at ZDF, and wrote as a freelance journalist for the Berliner Tagesspiegel and Handelsblatt.
