Andrea Roth

Andrea Roth works at Bayerischer Rundfunk and is Deputy Chair of the Bavarian Journalists’ Association (BJV), Chair of the European Commission of the German Journalists’ Association (DJV), and a board member of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ). She also serves on the advisory board of the Political Academy Tutzing.
Andrea Roth studied acting at the Maximilianeum in Salzburg, worked for several years as an actress, and later studied political science at LMU Munich. After completing her master’s degree, she began working in 1998 as a permanent freelance contributor at Bayerischer Rundfunk. To this day, she works there as a filmmaker and managing editor in the editorial offices of knowledge, education, and social issues. Andrea Roth has produced numerous long-form documentaries, such as Das Schweigen (available in the BR Mediathek), which tells the story of the grandson of a Nazi and the daughter of a Jewish forced laborer.
Within the Bavarian Journalists’ Association, she works on a wide range of topics, with a focus on collective bargaining negotiations with Bayerischer Rundfunk and on safety for journalists. In the European Federation of Journalists, her work centers on issues such as the European Media Freedom Act, regulations for artificial intelligence, and collective bargaining in European countries.
Andrea Roth is a prize winner at the Art-Amphora Film Festival and the Moscow Film Festival.
