Dr. Wolfram Weimer studied history, German studies, political science and economics in Frankfurt and Washington D.C. from 1984 to 1989. He completed his academic career with a doctorate in 1991.
He began his journalistic career in 1990 as an editor at the headquarters of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung before working as a correspondent for the FAZ in Madrid from 1994 to 1998. He then moved to DIE WELT, where he worked from 1998 to 2002, first as deputy editor-in-chief, later as editor-in-chief and finally as double editor-in-chief of DIE WELT and the Berliner Morgenpost. In 2003, he founded the political magazine Cicero, which he headed as editor-in-chief until 2010. He then took over as editor-in-chief of the news magazine Focus from 2011 to 2012. In 2012, he founded the WEIMER MEDIA GROUP, which he led as publisher and managing director until his appointment as Minister of State for Culture and Media on May 6, 2025.
