Prof. Dr. Mark Cole

Mark D. Cole has been Professor of Media and Telecommunications Law at the University of Luxembourg since March 2007. Since July 2014, he also holds a position as Director of Academic Affairs at the Institute for European Media Law (EMR, Saarbrücken). From 2020-2021, he served on the Council of Europe's Committee of Experts on Media Environment and Reform (MSI-REF) as co-rapporteur for the Recommendation on Principles for Media and Communications Governance adopted by the Committee of Ministers. He was also a member of the Council for the Future of Public Service Broadcasting convened by the Broadcasting Commission of the Länder. Mark D. Cole is also a faculty member at the Interdisciplinary Centre Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg and also teaches at the University of Mainz. In Luxembourg, he is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Independent Audiovisual Authority (ALIA, Autorité Luxembourgeoise Indépendante de l'Audiovisuel). Mark D. Cole specialises in European and comparative media law, covering the full range of regulatory frameworks for both traditional mass media and new information technology law, including data protection and intellectual property law; his research focuses on the EU regulatory framework with the AVMSD and the Digital Single Market. He is co-editor and author of various international media law commentaries and a number of international media law journals, is involved in international research projects, is regularly asked for expert opinions and is a speaker at international conferences.
