The Twin Paradox
A Symphonic Discourse
Current music AI models mostly imitate existing music or musical styles. The discussion
about the uniqueness of human creativity and the impact of AI on copyright therefore
has a major influence on the acceptance of this new technology.
The starting point for “The Twin Paradox: A Symphonic Discourse” is the question: Can an AI language model, under appropriate guidance, generate impulses for original contemporary compositions that go beyond imitation? Although language models cannot compose in the traditional sense, they can provide inspiration in the form of melodies, rhythm and harmony or even dramaturgy and instrumentation.
In this way, AI becomes a valuable tool rather than a threat - and the result remains a human work of art.
The world premiere of “The Twin Paradox”, a 12-minute commissioned work for the Munich Symphony Orchestra, took place on October 10, 2024 at the Prinzregententheater in Munich.
