Conflicts in journalism
When contradiction leads to dialogue
In an increasingly polarised world, journalism is called upon to build bridges. But how can contradictions and conflicts in everyday journalism become a fruitful dialogue? Dirk von Gehlen, Director Think Tank SZ-Institut and DJS Alumni, talks to Michelle Simon from What If, a journalistic organisation for constructive dialogue in conflict regions, and Sabrina Harper, the host of the project podcast, about the cooperation with the DJS project ‘Mal wieder sprechen’.
A central challenge takes centre stage: how can journalism create a space for open debate while meeting the demands of quality, independence and ethics? Together, we will discuss which tools, methods and formats are needed to create dialogues out of contradictions - for a journalism that not only reflects our complex society, but actively helps to shape it.
