Content creators as targets of hate speech

What to do against hate speech online?

Young people hardly get their information from traditional media channels anymore, instead turning to content creators and influencers on social media. However, their growing influence on opinion-forming is not only reflected in their greater reach. Content creators are also increasingly the target of online hate and agitation. Some are even withdrawing due to extreme waves of hate. The initiative “Justice and media - consistently against hate” counters these developments and discusses various ways of combating hate speech in the session. The “Justice and media - consistently against hate” initiative is a project of the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for New Media (BLM) and the Bavarian State Ministry of Justice (StMJ). It was launched in October 2019 and is committed to freedom of expression and the criminal prosecution of hate speech.
