Journalism and Futurism Should Be Friends
Why the Tools of Foresight Could Lead to Better News
Journalism is really good at looking at current events, and has some experience in connecting them to the past, as well. The future, however, has been a difficult area for journalism. How are you supposed to report on something that has not happened yet and is, by its very nature, speculative instead of factual? In this masterclass, we explore some ideas in the rapidly evolving fields of futurism and foresight to show that (data-based) speculation is not the same as guessing - and that futurism, if done right, is not just compatible with journalistic standards; it could be a way to empower audiences.
